Estrace is a prescription medication that contains the female hormone estradiol, which is a specific type of estrogen. Estradiol is a female hormone created by the ovaries that helps to control different processed within the body.

Estrace is mainly used in order to help treat the symptoms of menopause like hot flashed, vaginal dryness, burning as well as irritation. Estrace is not really meant to be used on a long term basis, but in some cases it might have to be used longer than expected. Long term use is something a doctor will try to avoid, because if you have to use it for too long it would increase the risk of you getting breast cancer or a blood clot.

A woman that’s pregnant shouldn’t use this treatment, because it can increase the risk of birth defects to an unborn child.
